PulteGroup and Building Homes for Heroes delivered two new mortgage-free homes to military veterans at EverBe in Orlando

For more than a decade, PulteGroup’s Built to Honor® program has recognized and thanked returning military personnel who have been injured during their term of service by providing mortgage-free homes to veterans and their families.

On August 19, PulteGroup’s Central Florida Division and Building Homes for Heroes welcomed two U.S. veterans and their families to their new, mortgage-free homes in the EverBe community in Orlando, Florida, with a special dedication ceremony and celebration.

PulteGroup’s Built to Honor® program will have donated 94 homes in 19 states by the end of 2024, starting from its launch in 2013. EverBe is the first PulteGroup community in Central Florida to provide new homes for military veterans.

Two New Homes For Deserving Heroes

This ceremony was important because it honored two deserving veterans and their family members, celebrating each veteran’s patriotism and valor while honoring their sacrifices. U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant Kaia Santana and U.S. Army Sergeant James Burse, who have both demonstrated exceptional dedication and bravery in their military service, were welcomed into their new homes and into their new community at EverBe.

At the ceremony, Clint Ball, Division President for PulteGroup thanked veterans for their service. The team gave keys to Santana and Burse for their new homes, recognizing their sacrifices. Ball expressed, “We’re so humbled and grateful for your selfless service on behalf of our country.”

Personal Touches To Surprise And Delight

While the veterans knew their homes would include personalized features to accommodate their disabilities, they were astonished to see the sparkling swimming pools where they will soon be relaxing with their families. They were equally amazed to see beautiful new furnishings, themed bedrooms for the children, and many personal touches that honored their military service and their individual passions. Master Sergeant Santana, who recently completed her certification in culinary training, was especially proud of her new chef’s kitchen, featuring state-of-the-art appliances and professional-grade cooking essentials. Sergeant Burse, a die-hard Georgia Bulldogs fan, was speechless to find signed sports memorabilia in his new home office.

A Life-Changing Gift And Memories to Come

Sergeant Burse said that this home would be life-changing for him and his wife, Tiffany. “This is a huge blessing for me and my wife. Now that we will have a home of our own and a safe place to live, we can focus on trying to start a family.”

Master Sergeant Santana was also filled with gratitude for the quality of life that will be offered by the new home that she and her family will create memories in for years to come. “It’s so gratifying to know that, as veterans, we are appreciated for the sacrifices we have made, along with our families. We’re grateful to PulteGroup for this wonderful opportunity.”

Honored For Their Selfless Service

Master Sergeant Kaia Santana served 19 years in the U.S. Air Force, successfully completing tours of duty in Greece, Guam, Japan, and Iraq. During those active duty deployments, she sustained several injuries, including PTSD, and she received numerous medals and commendations for her service. Santana recently completed a culinary arts program and has accepted a position at Walt Disney World.

U.S. Army Sergeant James Burse served nine years in the military, including deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. While on a mission in 2009, Burse’s convoy was involved in an explosion, which resulted in permanent injuries that included a walking impairment, nerve damage to his back, and PTSD. After his retirement, he began working with Operation Barnabas to assist veterans with homelessness and suicide prevention.
